Carnival & Garden Party
Save the date for Sherman's Under
the Sea Carnival & 1st Annual Garden Party -
Saturday, May 17 from 11am to 3pm.
We'll have lots of games, prizes
and food! Treasure Hunt at 12:30, balloon artist
from 1pm - 3pm and more! Plus student led garden tours
and the famous "gong" game! Special ceremony at
1pm - Hip Hip encore performance and more!

May 14 - PTA Meeting (final one of the school
year) - 6:15pm
May 16 - 2pm - New Family Orientation in the
Library
May 17 - Under the Sea Carnival and 1st Annual
Garden Party - 11:00am - 3:00pm
May 19 - 23 - Book Fair - this book fair is
run by the 4th and 5th grade classes and supports
their field trips and activities
May 23 - Summer Reading Book Sale - Stock up
on some great summer reading for you and your family
at the annual used book sale run by Librarian, Clare
Watsky. Books will be sold during school hours
in the Library. Prices will be between 25
cents to one dollar.
May 26 - Memorial Day - school closed
May 30 - Parent Coffee (final one of the school
year) - right after Morning Assembly
June 11 - Kindergarten Graduation
June 12 - 5th Grade Graduation
June 13 - Last Day of School - Happy Summer!

Hip Hop Performance
Our third graders, fifth graders and upper grade Special Ed students
strutted their stuff at our annual Hip Hop Performance. Hip
Hop teachers Mario and Darnell showed our kids how to get down and
get busy...is that the right lingo? Anyway, it was a
energetic, awesome performance by all of the dancers! Great
job!!
Did you miss the moves? Well, come see the encore
performance at the Sherman Carnival at 1pm!

Mayor Newsom Visits
Sherman
Mayor Newsom visited Sherman ES on
Monday, April 14. Principal Matsuno greeted the
mayor and toured him around our school. Garden
Coordinator Linda Myers took him for a spin around our
garden and even let gong the gong! Then he stopped
by our keyboarding lab, computer lab, upper grade
classrooms to see our great Smart Boards, our art studio
and recess yard. He was most impressed by
our stellar students and terrific teachers! School
Board member Hydra Mendoza joined him on the tour and
was amazed at all of the great things that we are doing
at Sherman. Parents were able to chat with the
Mayor and bragged about the great work of Principal
Matsuno, our teachers and staff. We thank Mayor Newsom
and Hydra Mendoza for visiting our school!!

Sports 4 Kids
Did you know about Coach Michelle's new
Power
Walking and Running Club? It's the first Friday of
each month. Students can run or walk and get a
little dot on their hand for each lap. All grades
are welcomed and encouraged to participate!

School Lunch Menus -

May. Lunch costs $2.00. You can
send money to school for your child that covers several
lunches. Please put your money in a sealed
envelope with the amount in the envelope and your
child's name.
