Principal Phyllis Matsuno's
Philosophy & Goals
Philosophy
-
Learning is a joyful experience
-
All
children can read and want to learn
-
All
children need a solid foundation - emotional,
physical, spiritual and moral - to build their
academic and intellectual success
-
The
most critical years for foundation building are from
birth to 2nd grade
-
Early intervention for children at risk of failure
is critical to ensure success
-
Children have different learning styles
-
Parent support is essential for student success
-
Diversity constitutes strength and should be
celebrated
Goals
-
A quality education based on
world-class standards is the right of every student
in a democratic society
-
To live productively and
harmoniously in a multi-cultural world community,
every student needs to be a literate, critical
thinker, clear communicator, creative problem solver
and hold humane, aesthetic, ethical and respectful
values
Priority
It is the Sherman School's priority
to operate in a way that actively recognizes the central
role it plays in the structure of society. Doing
so will undoubtedly improve the students' social
character development and encourage them to be model
citizens in their community - be it local, national or
international.
Principal
Matsuno Appreciation Day - May 30, 2006
On May 30th, the Sherman community honored
our school principal - Phyllis Matsuno. On behalf
of the entire community, a core group of parents, staff
and students gathered Fan Mail, student signatures, a
gift basket and a Certificate of Honor signed by Mayor
Newsom to show our great appreciation. At this
surprise ceremony, the students read off their Top 10
list of Why Mrs. Matsuno is Great and serenaded her with
the help of Sherman student guitar group.
